How to Book a Writing Consultation

The Centre for Writing and Scholarly Communication supports a diverse community of writers at UBC, at various levels of proficiency, across many types of undergraduate and graduate writing situations: academic, creative, professional, and technical. The CWSC offers 2 types of consultations—In Person Writing Consultations and Written Feedback Writing Consultations. For more on what to expect from a writing consultation, and how to prepare for one, please see the FAQs.

In Person Writing Consultation:

  1. Proceed to WC Online.
  2. Select the schedule “In Person Writing Consultation” and choose an appointment slot.
  3. Prior to the appointment start time, choose “Edit Your Appointment” and upload your document for review during the consultation (i.e., not before). If relevant, upload the assignment description and/or rubric as well.
  4. Appear at the Writing Room on the 3rd floor of the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre no earlier than 5 minutes prior to your appointment time.
  5. The Writing Consultant will welcome you at the time of your appointment and start the consultation.

Written Feedback Writing Consultation:

  1. Proceed to WC Online.
  2. Select the schedule “Written Feedback Writing Consultation” and choose an appointment slot.
  3. Prior to the appointment start time, choose “Edit Your Appointment” and upload your document. If possible, upload the assignment description and/or rubric as well.
  4. The Writing Consultant will provide feedback and re-upload the document, at which time you’ll receive an email and you’ll be able to retrieve the document with the Consultant’s comments.
  5. If you have trouble retrieving your document, try right-clicking “Download Attached File” and opening in a new tab or new window.
