Xuan joined the Centre for Writing and Scholarly Communication (CWSC) in July 2021. She holds a B.A. in Japanese Literature from China, an M.A. in Second Language Education from Japan, and a PhD. in Audiology and Speech Sciences from UBC.
Her doctoral research focused on the academic language skills of adolescent second language learners in Canadian high schools.
Current Role and Responsibilities
As a multilingual writer herself, Xuan shares many common issues and challenges that non-native English speakers face with English academic writing. Drawing on empirical research in applied linguistics and second language acquisition, Xuan has been designing workshops that aim to help non-native writers to further improve their academic language proficiency.
