A CWSC writing consultation is a chance for UBC students to receive personalised feedback on their writing from a trained doctoral writing consultant.

Consultations are for all UBC students, at any stage of their studies and at any level of English. Doctoral writing consultants can provide feedback on any type of writing, including class assignments, thesis or dissertation chapters, scholarship, grant or program applications, creative work, or professional documents.
Writing does not need to be “finished” to receive feedback. Consultations can be helpful at any stage, from early ideas to near-final drafts, and can provide guidance on ideas, structure, clarity, and argument.
Writing consultations are:
- Free
- Confidential
- Non-judgemental
- Focused on helping students revise and make decisions about their writing
Writing consultants do not grade or edit work. Instead, they ask thoughtful questions, share observations, and help students develop strategies that can be used now and in future writing.
